Our previous interviewee was the beautiful she-wolf aka Danelle Malan.
This week we'll be getting to know one of our youngest members also known as Jackie Zhang. He's 15 years old and lives in Pretoria Gauteng. He loves drawing digitally and does a great job for a young and upcoming artist .
Lets get to it!
1 Thank you for taking the time to do this interview, please tell us more about your background as an artist.
Wow! What a honour! So excited! Thanks!
Well I have been drawing ever since the dawn of mankind. But mostly made crappy comic with my friend. I started drawing seriously when my aunt bought me a tablet and one of my friend gave me his Photoshop. I use to go to Lynwood Ridge in my primary school years and I am now at Willow Ridge High school. All my drawing skills are self taught as I have never had the opportunity to go to some art class.
2 Where does your inspiration come from?
Most of my inspiration comes from animes, movies and especially games and also from you guys! and also Mountain Dew
3 How do you stay motivated to create whilst having to deal with school?
I try to draw everyday at least 30min after school and after my homework.
4 Do you listen to music when you're working? If so, what's on your playlist at the moment?
Hell yeah! I listen to music and sometimes watch Futurama while drawing
I moslty listen to Rock but not heavy ones more "punkish" I suppose
Right now I'm listening to -Rise Against, Red, Killswitch Engage, Fort Minor and ect. Rise Against FTW!!
5 Have any artists (locally or internationally) influenced you in any way, and how?
Yes, almost everyday. I try to mix their drawing styles with someone else's drawing style into one awesome one, and I am not really achieving right now.
6 What are your tools of the trade, both hardware and software? And what do you prefer?
Photoshop as it is the only one I have, Im thinking of getting Coral Paint but it's a bit pricy. I prefer Digital than Traditional, really hate drawing with pencils especially colouring them. >: (
7 What, for you personally, are the pros and cons of being an artist and would you want to study art after high school?
Pros: You get to create, you get to show people your imagination and it just looks badass
Cons: You NEVER get inspiration you have to practice very hard and you have to be dedicated.
Yes, I would love to study art after High School, but the problem is not many places teaches you digital art... ;(
8 How does being an artist/designer influence your life? Do you feel that you see things around you differently?
It doesn't really influence me and I think I see everything the same...i hope
9 What other interests do you have (besides art)?
Gaming and being lazy
10 What is your opinion of the quality of work coming from Legionink and is there anyone who stands out to you?
I think the quality of LegionInk is improving greatly!I really love that site! And there are alot of people who stands out to me,it feels like if I'm sitting down
11 Once again , thank you very much for the interview. As a final word, do you have any tips for young and upcoming artists and designers?
